University of Glamorgan
CELT seminar - The Online Learning Innovation Fund - implications for Wales OpenEvent Date: October 14, 2009 12 p.m. – 2 p.m.
Zen Room – Atrium, Cardiff campus
The event is presented by Professor Paul Bacsich
This presentation and workshop is targeted at an audience of Welsh HE and FE leaders and staff
The Online Learning Innovation Fund was announced in June 2009 by the recently-constructed Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), formed from the merger of DIUS and BERR in the UK government. Its aim is to facilitate UK universities to deliver online distance learning to the furthest corners of the world.
Professor Bacsich will put the Online Learning Innovation Fund into context by exploring its links with other initiatives, in particular the JISC OER call, the JISC Curriculum Design and Delivery programmes, HE Academy initiatives (including those funded by HEFCW), and the new “national role” of the OU. The Re.ViCa project will provide a European context to the debate.
Following an introductory presentation the session will take the form of a workshop to explore the issues for Wales. Given that the funding for the Online Learning Innovation Fund comes from HEFCE (the Higher Education Funding Council for England), what will happen in the other home nations, in particular Wales?
